The influence of historical and political factors on the architecture of Ukraine was greatest on the architecture of religious buildings, particularly Orthodox architecture. The main stages of impact on the Orthodox architecture of Ukraine are characterized and analyzed: the Kyivan Rus period (10th–13th centuries), the period of “Cossack Baroque” of the 17th–18th centuries, the forced ban on the national style and the imposition of Classicism-Empire style in the 19th century, and historicism of the 19th–early 20th centuries. It is argued that certain stylistic preferences are not accidental, and it is proven how historical and political factors influenced the morphology of forms. The most significant historical periods of change were selected for analysis. Territorial boundaries of the study: the land of Kyivan Rus, the Hetmanate, and the territories that fell under the rule of the Russian Empire.

Вплив історичних та політичних факторів на архітектуру України був найбільшим на архітектуру культових споруд, зокрема православних. Охарактеризовано та проаналізовано основні етапи впливу на православну архітектуру України: період Київської Русі (X–XIII ст.), період «козацького бароко» XVII–XVIII ст., вимушена заборона національного стилю та нав'язування стилю класицизму-ампіру у XIX ст., а також історизм XIX – початку XX ст. Стверджується, що певні стильові уподобання не є випадковими, та доведено, як історичні та політичні фактори впливали на морфологію форм. Для аналізу обрано найважливіші історичні періоди змін. Територіальні межі дослідження: землі Київської Русі, Гетьманщина та території, що потрапили під владу Російської імперії.
